Every time AMD stock dips, these threads turn manic.

Relax.

TGPTNDR: <T-Bird is Dresden. Dresden was supposed to be starting 500 wpw in July with a 100%/Quarter acceleration rate for 2 quarters.

80% 'Yield at 1000MHz or better'.

Lots of those wafers should have been been delivered.
More than enough to make 2Meg. CPUS.>

Well lets see how many CPU's should have been output from Dresden in the current quarter assuming a 13 week production cycle including package and test:
Week Ending..# wafers..Production finish
7/07...............500.....10/6
7/14.............. 538.....10/13
7/21...............577.....10/20
7/28...............614.....10/27
8/04...............652.....11/03
8/11...............691.....11/10
8/18...............729.....11/17
8/25...............768.....11/24

Total of 5,069 wafers with production completed in Q4
(the remaining 5 weeks of Q4 will give 4417 additional wafers, but that doesn't leave any time to actually sell the CPU's)

Die size is ~120mm 31400/120 - 10% wasted space (?) =
235 theoretical die per wafer.

Even a good 70% yield only gives 836,000 TBirds made so far in Q4, with about (133K, 139K, 145K, 152K, 158K) in the remaining weeks of the quarter. The last two weeks don't count because I think even Fab 30 shuts down for Christmas week and it take a week to sell them.

So, based on the run rate you gave, 70% yield (good die) and adding in 2 weeks of "end of Q3" production sold in Q4, we get 836K+133K+139K+145K+76K+79K or a grand total of 1.4M TBird's sellable in Q4.

Re: Dresdin was supposed to be starting 500 wpw in July

Die size of 120mm2. Cutting losses take the amount of wafer area up to about 130mm2, maybe a little more. Area of the wafer is 100x100xPI = 242. 10% edge loss gives 217 60% yield gives 130 good die / wafer x 500 wafers per week = 65K /week available for sale starting 90 days after July which is October. So from October on we were expecting about 250K per month from Dresden. Prior to that the numbers were lower.

The numbers are coming in about right. We should get another 600K or 700K in November/December (combined) as the ramp accelerates.

(just got back in from out of town - there are a lot of messages to get through!)

Regards,

Dan
