Scumbria,

re: Intel was very silly not to make sure that the Business benchmarks were recompiled before the P4 release.

You sure never hold AMD to these high standards. Intel doesn't compile Microsoft source code, if Gore wins the election that may change. ;-)

Even Tom was whining about no optimized benchmark from AMD in that link I gave you. Note also how damned surprised he was that the recompile raised the performance of all CPU's tested, including the Athlon.

Do you get the feeling the old compilers suck. Maybe Microsoft will incorporate a few changes in their next compiler and next rev of office products, but not for awhile.

DDR for the PIII? ------Totally Knarly! Just when you thought it was safe to get back in the water.

...Chaintech has two new DDR mobos for PIII and Celeron II based on VIA's Pro266 chipset. One is a purely DDR board, while the other offers the option of using either SDR or DDR memory.

The 6VJD has 3 DDR 200/266 memory slots for up 3GB of RAM. The board also sports five PCI, one ACR and an AGP slot, AC-97 compliant audio codec, Ultra DMA 66/100 drive support and connections for up to six USB ports.

The 6VJD2 motherboard has similar features plus two PC100/133 and two DDR 200/266 slots, which allows users the choice of using existing DIMMs or boosting performance with DDR memory.

The company has also revamped its mobos based on Intel's 815EP chipset. The 6OJA3 has six PCI slots, four USB ports and user configurable Vcore settings. The 6OJV3 is an enhanced version of the original 815E ATX motherboard that offers user adjustable Vcore settings. Both boards can be software-configured and - gasp - overclocked. ...

Serious q:

Assuming a OC 1.15(?) PIII with 266, how would that compare to a 1.2 AMD running on what 200 Dram?
