Maverick, the media's distortion of reality is sickening. Since when are the huge application suites for Content Creation by Adobe and Macromedia considered to be "common office applications" and a dinky MP3 encoder is considered to be a high-end marvel.

P4 sucks so bad in content creation winstone, which uses the aforementioned applications. Its inferior in the high end graphics winmark test. Its so bad in creating 3D animations (3D Studio Max) that a 1 GHz KT133 beats a 1.5 GHz P4 soundly.

And the internet benchmarks be they server oriented (ASP pages) or client oriented (Java) run very poorly on the P4.

Is SPECviewperf considered an ordinary office application? No, it is an extremely floating point intensive application and Athlon is anywhere from 20% slower on a few benchmarks of it to 100% faster on other benchmarks. Yet Jayant Mathew claims that P4 is "a screamer on floating point applications."

For every person who needs an MP3 encoder there are five who need to run Visual Studio very fast.

And so far, Quake 3 is the ONLY game that runs faster on a 1.5 GHz P4 than a 1.2 GHz Athy. MDK2 comes close, but 1.2 GHz DDR Athlon still beats it.

AMD needs a marketing campaign to counteract this P4 BS.
