Mishedlo: it's about power, and who has it. Neither side gives a damn about "counting each vote." Bush and his advisors have figured that a "liberal" dimpled-chad standard would cost them the election, and as long as Democratic controlled counties or perhaps liberal judges can count the vote using the most generous of standards in Democratic heavy counties, the Republicans will fight to stop the count. At the same time, Gore and the Democrats are fighting to use interpretative standards in counting that they would fight to the death to stop if the situation were reversed. In addition, the goon squads of trial lawyers supporting Gore actually did succeed in blocking a lot of military and other absentee votes. In those cases, Gore and Lieberman talk about "applying the law." They're all hypocrites, it's a statistical draw, and the last man standing in this dirty knife fight wins, though he'll be thoroughly cut up as a result.
