TravelNow.com Exploring Alternatives

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Reuters) - Internet travel Web site TravelNow.com Inc. (NasdaqSC:TNOW - news) said on Wednesday that its board has retained Legg Mason Wood Walker Inc. to assist in exploring strategic alternatives, including a potential sale of the company.

``Our financial results continue to be strong and our business is producing sufficient cash to fund our needs for the foreseeable future,'' Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Wasson said in a statement. ``However, in light of the ever-changing competitive landscape in the online travel business, we believe that it is prudent at this time to evaluate the strategic alternatives that may be available to enhance shareholder value.''

Other alternatives may include asset sales, new equity partners, joint ventures and/or additional financing.

The company said there is no assurance that the strategic review will lead to any transaction and that it is committed to its continued independent operation if no strategic alternative is identified. TravelNow.com has no present intention to changing its current operations or reducing its work force.

Shares of Springfield, Mo.-based TravelNow.com ended the day off 29/32, or 53.7 percent, at 25/32, after hitting a new 52-week low of 5/8 earlier in the day. The shares traded at a 52-week high of $17-1/2 in January.
