Greg,
imho there should be several catalysts:
1) official president of the U.S. is finally elected;
2) the Fed either changes its bias or unexpectedly lowers the rates;
3) very few earnings warnings <- this would be huge;
4) substantial earnings surprises from market leaders, such as MSFT, INTC, JDSU, CSCO.

Another probable scenario is -500+ single day on the Naz with VIX at 45+...
