John, Re : "Anybody buying Intel at 22 times 2001 earnings (analyst guesses)?"

Not me. Here's why :
1. Now each PC maker and chip maker may come a little short of estimate and every single time another company comes up with a lowered estimate, the stock may tank further.
2. Investment Income : With the small tech companies hurting, Intel won't have enough investment income to supplement the core business income for too long. Even if the core business grows by 20% (~6.5B to 8B), and Investment income remaining the same ($900M/quarter), which would be extremely difficult to achieve IMO, we are looking at EPS of about 12B in profit for 2001 (EPS of 1.75, Estimated PE of 22). IMO, the EPS will be revised downward and that may hurt the stock further.
3. Sentiments! Out of control either way.
4. Short term woes and pressure on Margins with .13 transition and P4 cost to manufacture.
5. Most importantly, there's no money to buy any more! (I am too scared to margin buy). However, If I had the money, I would buy it for long term at this level.

Maui.
