Hi Windsock,

That Zimbabwean piece had an air of inauthenticity about it. Seems that the fellow has far too much time to dwell on the pecadilloes of Pompano and Palm Beach. Do you have a URL to share?

However, that is not to say that I find disagreement with the sad conclusion that justice is not being served in this election and indeed, creepy distortions of fair play like the declaration of issues of justiciability are entering the discussion as a means to politely block the will of the people.

Your mention of a Zimbabwean, in view of the inordinately long history of military/commercial hegemony*** by Rhodes forces and successors, naturally led me to think once again of an American general who thought clearly about the issues of his day and which have meaning in the current struggle today for the brass ring of the Presidency.

I would offer for your reflection, some of the words of Lt. Gen. Smedley Butler, USMC, who knew the sorts of men who would do whatever it takes to ensure a Bush victory in the present circumstances. Just as Cobalt Blue has mentioned the thoughtfulness of studying the foibles of former empires like those of the Caesars, I'd suggest a reading of this enlightened man, who, at one time, was a very important tool in the kit of American Imperialism.

***In 1890, the fortune-hunting Cecil Rhodes arrived at the head of a private army of settlers and commenced to conquer what he thought might be a rich gold-producing region. By 1897 the area had been completely subdued. In 1923 Rhodesia became a self-governing British colony, completely controlled by the white settlers.

PS: Zimbabweans know all about rigged elections and phony claims of authority. It was a way of life for 80 years.
