To: LPS5 who wrote (1319 ) 11/30/2000 1:44:42 PM From: FJV Respond to of 10489 LPS, The following is a partial reprint of my post #393, posted on July 24, which evaluated fighters in 147/154. Given Saturday's matchup, it's appropriate to revisit: "...As for ranking the elite welter/junior middles, I rank them as follows: 1)Mosely 2)Vargas 3)Delahoya 4)Trinidad Here's my logic. Only a tactical error kept Oscar from beating Tito. DLH and his people believed that he couldn't lose a decision in Vegas. What he underestimated was the fact that Tito is a Don King fighter. IMO, DLH out-pointed Tito but was very lackluster in the last few rounds. It cost him the fight. I think DHL would have easily beaten Trinidad if he fought Trinidad with the same intensity he showed against Mosely. Although inexperienced, Vargas is an excellent boxer/puncher who fights with intensity. Although I don't believe his stock went up after the Quartey fight, he did what he had to do in order to beat a name brand opponent. I believe he will solve Tito's suspect defense and use his superior hand and foot speed to beat Trinidad. The reason I put Mosely on top is that he convincingly beat the best, most well-prepared Oscar DeLaHoya I had ever seen. DLH looked far better against Shane than he looked against either Ike or Tito - yet he couldn't beat Mosely. Further, I don't think he can ever beat Mosely. In my mind, Oscar had already beaten Trinidad with an inferior performance than he that which he exhibited vs. Mosely. I truly believe that Mosely is just too fast and his boxing skills are too good for the other three. Only Vargas may have a reasonable shot against him with some seasoning. He'll get that seasoning against Trinidad. I believe Tito's defensive shortcomings will be exposed against Vargas and would be fully exploited by Mosely's speed. Now, add Vernon Forrest to the mix, and you have a recipe for some blockbuster matchups. Forrest has beaten Mosely in the Olympic trials. I'd love to see him fight any of these guys. One man's opinion. Ciao...." ------------------------------------------------------------ In my opinion, Mosely is the only fighter who has what it takes to beat Vargas right now. I just placed a $200 bet on Vargas and got odds of +155 (that's a $310 return for the unitiated). I may lose, expecially if it goes the distance, but I truly believe the risk/reward is excellent. Regards ot all on the thread. Franco
