The Gateway exec said the warning was given because Tgiving weekend sales were weak. It's such a short span of time to draw a conclusion like they did. They have all of Dec to make it up.

G, I don't think many of the semi-equip executives are being listened to today - I don't think they have been listened to for several months.

How many times have we heard good earnings report, and forward projections, and then the next day, the analysts downgrade the stock - the analysts just don't believe that everything is "hunky dory". They are looking at the "bigger picture"<gg>.

The analysts see high interest rates and inventories building up. They see a Fed that couldn't even remove their bias towards potentially more inflation on the way. I hear more talk on TV every day about about a "recession" next year and strong possibilities of a "hard landing". I heard Dan Niles of Lehman Bros on TV today say in a nice way<gg>, paraphrased, "I don't believe what the semiconductor segment is saying. All the problems out there are going to affect their earnings."
