The convergence of telecom, cable, digital TV and computer networks, is done by standardizing packets and compression specifications. Then all systems can talk to each other. ie., data could be MP4 backward compatible to MP1 video streaming. Packets could be compatible from dial up modem to frame relay.

Such standards is what NT has not been informed yet. Once they learned that convergence principle, then the new generation of devices will be quite conformal to legacy standards. And we will have a universal communication system to any display devices.
