Agreed. The election uncertainties not only hurt the market directly, but also put a damper on consumers' spirit at the height of holiday shopping season. We don't need any more exaggerated signs of a "paralyzed" US economy.

Let's hope Greenspan doesn't repeat his tightening bias at the next FOMC meeting, or say something funky.....one more push from that direction, we may find ourselves in a void.

Sure looks like it. I pulled up a 1974 chart and the bottom was indeed in shortly after Nixon resigned.
