Amazon site down again

Online retailer's main Web site crashes for second time in a week

November 30, 2000: 4:03 p.m. ET

SEATTLE (Reuters) - The main Web site of online retailer Amazon.com Inc. crashed briefly on Thursday, the second time in less than a week that the virtual store has been shut down.

The site, at www.amazon.com, appeared to be down for about 15 minutes, but came back up at around 3:30 p.m. ET., spokeswoman Patty Smith said.

"It was an internal glitch, nothing that we can attribute to traffic," Smith said.

Last Friday, the site crashed for about 30 minutes on the busiest day of the year for U.S. shoppers due to what the company said was an internal bug.

The next few weeks leading up to the holiday season are seen as critical for Amazon (AMZN: Research, Estimates), which has come under increasing pressure from investors and analysts to prove it can turn a profit.

Shares in Amazon plunged $2, or 7.4 percent, to $24.94 in late afternoon trading Thursday on the Nasdaq amid a broad sell-off in technology shares triggered by a spate of sales and earnings warnings from major companies.

I guess it hasn't been that busy anyway
