Impugning the patriotism of one whole party can threaten civilian control of the military. Actually, I would argue the opposite. Constantly impugning the military, or assigning them impossible missions with insufficient resources is what TRULY threatens civilan control. But I'm not particularly worried about it. We have a politicized leadership more interested in career promotion than fielding a combat ready force, either as a deterrent to, or the instrument of, war. They know which side their bread is buttered on. That is, if they want to collect their pensions and have access to those lucrative defense related post-retirement corporate jobs. Btw, I believe it is the Gore campaign that is no longer showing respect towards the wishes of the Florida Supreme Court. And I believe it is their open hypocrisy with regard to "cherry-picking" certain select democratic counties for recount after recount of anonymous ballots, claiming that "every vote represents a human voice", yet they are unwilling to lend MORE credence to the absentee ballots that ARE NOT ANONYMOUS, have been signed by the voter, and can be readily verified. But no one in the democratic party is willing to show the same desire to give "personalized attention" to those folks who actually signed their ballots. Remember, the entire voting process is set up so that each of can remain anonymous and avoid any potential future political harassment for how we voted. Those who vote by absentee ballot waive that right, and thus feel so strongly about voting that they are willing to publicly announce to the world who they voted for. Regards, Ron

Nadine...re the "old punch card machines" ..why is it they are used in counties that are heavy Democrat counties in FL?? And some of those same counties are among the wealthiest counties in FL, with Palm Beach one of the top wealthiest in the entire US??? Why weren't they changed some time ago, if they weren't correct? Who maintains them??? Whose responsibility is it to see they were maintained correctly?? It will be really interesting to find out someday just when those machines were actually purchased, and have some answers to the above questions....Just how LONG has this been going on???? You said: You just have to look at the locations of the old punch card voting machines with their 2% error rate.
