I2, from what you have just said, this is an example of humans adding their own interpretations to what the Bible is believed by some, "intended" to say. That, I do not approve of. Such interpretations of words unwritten is one of the things that make Christianity unpalatable to some people. What is written, is the Word of God. What is not written, but is preached from the pulpits, is the word of mere mortal men.

Investor2 - The "infant baptisms" that I have attended not only were to dedicate the infant to the Lord, but the parents (or those responsible for raising the child) were making a promise in front of witnesses to raise the child into the knowledge of God and Jesus. The idea behind this may have come from something I read in Luke 2:22-28 where Mary & Joseph came to the Temple with the infant Jesus following the law in those days.
