We are people! And people never fit conveniently into specific categories.

I think that most recreational drugs should be legalized, including marijuana, LSD, Ecstacy, cocaine, and heroin."

Honestly, other than WF Buckley, Milton Friedman and Libertarians, how many conservatives believe the above?

A lot, especially if you count "conservatives" that live in other countries. "The Economist," a UK publication and quite conservative has been lobbying for drug legalization for many years.

I approach the subject from a personal responsibility and economic perspective. I believe the dollars and damage from the associated crime warrant drug legalization.

OK, the above fit the conservative profile, but then we add:

"I oppose prayer in public schools and at football games held by public schools, but I favor allowing people of all religions to put up displays of religious symbolism in public"

I come from a religious background and do attend religious ceremonies quite regularly. However, I think it is a private matter and find it offensive to flaunt it. It makes me uncomfortable to see public prayer and am against it. On the other hand, when my kids can't even sing Christmas songs that have any religious content in school, I think that has gone too far.

Conservatives aren't as uniform as many people believe they are. I think we, by nature, aren't just as demonstrative as others. You might be surprised what a varied lot we are.
