Hello Mike,
Regarding moving up from Dial-up to xDSL (home use)..
The downside to upgrading is the potential disruption
of, or added cost of retaining, your current ISP Service
IMHO.

EarthLink (my current ISP) has recently contacted
me with what appears to be a smart move ... They have
offered to upgrade my service to DSL for little more
than the cost of my present Service + the cost of my dedicated (2nd) phone line.

I am sold on Fixed RF btw. I am currently using a Lucent/ORINOCO RG1000 (IEEE 802.11b)Home Networking setup.

Works flawlessly. Even gets a "good" signal behind my
apple tree LOL.
Installation was "near painless", with no concern about IP Address or other tech-junk.

Current operation is via a built in modem, in the access point unit.
Looks like the external LAN connection, which currently
supports a HP Print Server, can be used for a DSL
Modem.
Will have to follow up on that, before I venture into DSL
land.

From the following article, it looks like Cisco
realizes the limitations of their current Fixed Wireless
offerings BTW.
Apparently they will seek out makers of robust wide-band
equipment, for future partnerships..
We might also note their apparent Wireless ISP partnership
with Ericsson Canada, and (believe it or not)a Canadian Upstart Wireless Equipment Company.
Best,
Mardy
