N.K. issues commemorative gold, silver coins

North Korea has issued 3,000 gold and silver coins commemorating the first round of reunions of families divided between the two Koreas in mid-August.

The coins are displayed at a store on the first floor of Koryo Hotel in Pyongyang, where the second round of reunions is being held.

The phrase "meeting of separated families in North and South" is engraved on the coins against the background of a picture of a mother and son hugging affectionately.

The silver coins, denominated as 10 won, are sold at 37 won ($17).

Their English quality guarantee says that the 99.9-percent gold and silver coins, weighing 31.1 grams each, were manufactured by Pukang Trading Company. (LJH)
