Hi Ward,

Vigorish is the Yiddish term for commissions. A real drag on profitability, especially in an opaque market like off-the-run bonds.

Along with Ray's explanation, I think I may be the one who started using the term years ago on either the Systems Thread for Futures or even earlier on a Stock thread many of us met on around 1996.

The reason I started using the term is because I view commissions somewhat along the lines that Eddie Murphy did in the movie "Trading Places". It's like paying a bookie.

When you gamble with a bookie there is a "vig", or vigorish. It's the cut that the bookie makes for taking the action.
