wise old turtles

I prefer "boring old farts" but I still object to "old."

You're a great writer, an outstanding researcher, a fine teacher, and you understand GG concepts as well as anyone. The fact that you've been unable to profit from it is a measure of your lack of discipline, not your knowledge.

tekboy,Judging by the public and private responses my recent margin post received, there are a fair number of schmucks out there making my kind of mistakes. Perhaps having a public example will be of some educational value, so the next crop can learn vicariously rather than experientially.

Sounds a bit like Murphy's law of research.

"There is no such thing as a failed experiment, it can always serve as a negative example."

Although, I must admit that you definitely do not subscribe to Murphy's 3rd law of Engineering. "If at first you do not succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried."

Tekboy,
I admire your honesty in telling of your past year's investing history. As a matter of fact, as useful as the stock survey will be, in the long run part two of it may be more valuable to the board than just listing your holdings. It was an inspired request by Apollo.
Having said that, the sad truth is that people generally learn the most from their own mistakes. The more it hurts the more you will remember. Not to be a sycophant but the knowledge and experience presented on this board is truly amazing.Maybe now I will be able to make better use of what is presented on this venue.
