The analyst herd seems to be saying, "this sector sucks, the next 6 months look bad

It seems as if this is all they ever say about this sector. SSB for one, was bearish in June of '99 and again in '00. If they cannot find evidence of growth in that time span and reasons to be bullish, my guess is they are not looking too hard.

Re: EMC/CSCO deserve a higher multiple

You bring up the point of multiple differential. What price is fair above and beyond what one will pay for a cyclical company? 2 times, 4 times? For these cos. it is something more on the lines of 6-10X AMAT's price. Assuming that all cos. will experience roughly equal EPS growth smoothed out over time, I again think the market is treating AMAT unfairly.....or the converse, treating other companies with too much deference assuming their revenue streams will grow uninterrupted ad infinitum.
