Hi Mike,

I have practical experience with video conferencing. It is highly over-rated by its promoters. I built a video conference center for Alascom, the ILEC, in Juneau, in 1984. Another contractor built the one in Anchorage. The last time I checked, 18 months after the completion of the work, Alascom had not secured one single paying customer for the service. It is simply not something that business or bureaucracies prefers to other means of holding meetings. And the current TV ads with Grandma on one screen and the rugrats on the other reminds me of the ill-fated video phones that AT&T was touting in the early 70's. Another solution looking for a problem to solve, that simply failed to get traction in the market.

Best, Ray :)
