cfoe: Chuckling at and not sure I agree as to the overall net gain in productivity in your acquaintences venture. It will just give prof's more incentive to not teach, and put out yet more worthless papers.

Ummm...what? How are they going to do that when the biggest chunk of time has nothing to do with publishing and has everything to do with the peer review process? The only way the internet can speed that up is if you unplug the broadband modem and jack the unobliging reviewer into the 120V outlet in its place...
