And the weddings, baptisms, funerals etc... with the local bands of three or four trumpets and some percussion following the parades from their homes to the church... Memories of times past... Tikal, Copan, Palenque... other great sites to observe the clash of cultures of the old and "new" worlds. San Cristobal de las Casas, also an extraordinary place where even the weather is in itself extraordinary changing from a hot jungle to a near Alpine coolness in the middle of May. The color, scents and flavors so brilliant and so varied... I wonder how they are today, with Sub-comandante Marcos as a great influence and hope for those who have made him their hero... You could sense the guerrillas being around, not for their presence, but for the soldiers around keeping an eye on anything suspicious...
