M Dell spoke at CSFB conference....

tech.csfb.com

A few highlights...

Rack dense servers-Growing quickly. 258% growth yoy. 36% of revenue.

NAS/SAN...We have had some success here-We have just won a large contract with the Navy for a 2000TB SAN.... Once all storage has similar features price will become an issue. 76% yoy growth in storage 26%sequentially. They want to make these things easy to install so that it won't require intense field support.

My own conclusion....
Dell wants to use the Navy deal as proof it can crack the enterprise arena, especially in storage.

Q on entrenched storage competition....paraphrasing.....

Went for high end first, we have corrected that. As data moves off of mainframes and onto windows we have strong products, but we will have to work our way up. Look for wins in small to mid size accounts. Lets looks at this Navy deal, 2000 TB is a lot of data. These are big deals that we are winning. Look what Dell did against the entrenched workstation market to see how shifts can occur.
