While leisurely perusing the People's Momentum Daily MF tables, I stumbled upon an intersting fact: BEARX is UP 35% for the year!! Wouldn't it be something if he finishes the year as one of the 5 or 10 top-performing funds, as listed in all those crappy investment periodicals?<G>

Heinz, Do you know of any specific problem at AU? It has performed much worse than the other gold cos. My assumption was that because of hedging it would not go down as much as non-hedged cos. and I sold puts on it. In Nov I was assigned them and it kept going down ever since, even though other gold cos recovered nicely.
TIA - ild

"...Turkish overnight interest rates reached highs of 1,700 per cent yesterday in response to central bank action to defend reforms backed by the International Monetary Fund. ..."

"...The central bank on Thursday cancelled emergency funding being given to banks in breach of money supply limits set by Turkey's IMF-backed programme to eliminate double-digit inflation by the end of 2002. ..."

That was quick, double-digit inflation is already a fond memory. -g-

Franco-Nevada- Gold fields deal not dead?
mips1.net
This would be good news since I swapped my HGMCY for GOLD for tax reasons.
mips1.net
HGMCY made an expensive bid for 2 Anglo gold mines. I understand that those mines are high cost. Hopefully HGMCY's management knows what they are doing.

Germany's power play threatens Nice summit
By Ambrose Evans-Pritchard in Brussels and George Jones

"...GERMANY'S attempt to become the single most powerful country in EU decision-making was last night threatening to wreck the prospects of agreement at this week's European summit in Nice.
French officials are refusing to give ground on Germany's demand for more votes in the Council of Ministers to reflect its increased size after reunification. Romano Prodi, the European Commission president, warned that this meant the summit had only a 50-50 chance of success. Germany has a population of 82 million, compared to fewer than 60 million each in France, Britain, and Italy, but still has the same 10 votes in the European Union's law-making body...."

Is the EU going to refight the US Constitutional Convention as a battle of wits between unarmed bureaucrats? -g-
