I am intrigued with what I see as such a major paradox between their inability to earn a proift and the value of the brand name. I cannot wait to see how the paradox gets resolved in the next couple of years (max).

I find it very interesting too. Meaning what happens at the end. I don't see a paradox here however. Let's say you are correct and the brand is valuable. That is a different issue to me.

The lack of profits is in the model. My opinion has always been and still is that it is impossible to turn a profit as a pure online retailer unless the consumer is willing to pay a fair amount more for the "convenience" of on-line shopping. I am not sure people are not willing to do this although not for the products that Amazon is currently selling.
