re: "I think we should cancel all trading on AMAT today and ask for a NEW trading day."

Nasdaq rules clearly say that all trades for December 1, 2000, should take place on 12/1/2000. This interpretation, however, has never been fully court-tested. The Florida Supreme Court upheld this strict interpretation. However, all those judges were appointed by shorters. That decision is currently being appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, where chances of a reversal are good, since all of them own out-of-the-money December calls.

Eventually, you will get as much justice as you can buy.
