I think a lot more dotcoms and catalog co's would have to go out of bus before this could be tested. The competition is keeping prices low, but how long can a whole industry subsector survive with no profits?

We are seeing the shift to dual channel more so this year than ever. It really does not matter if Wal-Mart, Penneys, etc. can build a web site that functions as well as that of Amazon. What matters is the fact certain fixed expenses rmeain fixed (that by definition) when doing dual channel. I expect to see a complete demise of all pure play on-line stores Ebay excluded which is not a store. Then we should see competition on-line similar to what we have seen in the brick and mortar world for years. Cycles of decent consumer dmeand so the retailer has some pricing power to turn some decent profits. Also, cycles of low consumer demand causing a lot of price competition which leaves the retailer with a bad year.

I agree with you that a lot of dot comes will have to go out of business. In fact, I believe they all will.
