It's just like picking up the phone and dialing any other phone. The Nortel switch is tied into the router and only LD calls go out VoIP. Local calls go out to the local CO. This is requiring fewer local lines and virtually no more LD charges. We have to maintain the network for regular data traffic, the added hardware for VoIP functionality requires no maintainance except to replace it if it fails. Even though we are upgrading the entire network over the next few years, we're actually decreasing the actual amount of hardware we have at each site.
