Presuming you're a Trekkie....... We're looking at the precursors to Data's positronic brain.

30+ years ago, TV remote controls were based on tuning fork tones (like a xylophone) which sympatheticly tickled the TV's tuner, then there was analog and digital remote control for model airplanes.

Some products similar to Robbie the Robot circa "Lost in Space" are currently being produced in Japan. "..I, Robot.." is not to far off, and Data is simply an advanced generation.

One of these days when you say "..fetch..", it won't be Rover bringing you your slippers - it will be R2D3 carrying your Navigator up the hill rather than getting the tires dirty.

Now AREE's efforts will be more in the $6MM man category, but like you more-or-less said, "...all for a measely $0.017+/-..... It's not too huge a stretch. And, not too shabby.
