I don't think the Florida Supreme Court set a new rule, although there could be pause on the deadline it set. I think the Florida high court would have been better to keep the date open for submission of the handcounted votes, thereby continually keeping the pressure to the discretion of the secretary of state.

But she had already overstepped her discretion from a lower court ruling, so perhaps that's why the Supreme Court set a date. Nevertheless, this is not the U.S. Supreme Court's business. In its present form, it's not a federal action; it's a state action.
