Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) announced Thursday that it has increased the inclusion weight of the MSCI Taiwan Index from 65 percent to 80 percent of its total market capitalization.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSM) will cut back on capital expenditure next year amid concerns about falling demand in the global chip industry, the Economic Daily News reported. The world's largest dedicated chip foundry said it has yet to decide upon the exact expenditure for 2001.

TAIPEI (Dow Jones)--Intel Corp. (INTC) will purchase US$900 million worth of products from Taiwan in 2000, compared with US$450 million a year previously, Sean Maloney, senior vice president at the chip giant, said Monday.
Maloney said he expects "that to grow substantially over the next few years."
