ftth and Ray- Thanks for the report and the article. I'll read both. If you pull out important stats contrary to what is spun on wall street about traffic growth, please by all means post it. I read about the doubling of traffic every four months all the time. I'm skeptical myself of that stat.

steve- Although those photos were impressive, keep in mind it's total of 7,000 seats. Not a big enough figure to draw any strong conclusions from yet. And I can't get a handle on if it's because it's a fad and draws in the young people, or if it's drawing in the people because of a paradigm shift in their social interaction? If it's a fad, then expect the cafes to go out of business shortly because they have one heck of an overhead to cover.

I have to say, I could see a near-riot(but there wouldn't be because they are the nicest people I've ever met) occuring if they opened up one of these in Bangkok. They would just be overwhelmed with customers. In Bangkok, I never saw so many two or three station Internet cafes in my life. If one of the mega-cafes moved in there and dropped the price down to $1/hr, there would be lines around the block waiting to log on.

I'm very curious as to how successful the one in NYC is going to be. I'll be looking forward to reports Frank occasional sends to us as he peeks in. My feeling is it will fail because, as ftth mentions, it's cheaper to log on at home. -MikeM(From Florida)
