Had Gore been a man, he would have let go a long time ago for the sake of the country

There is 75 days between the election and the time we really need to know who won. A few weeks delay is not that big a deal and not a threat to the country. It is the propaganda, orchestrated by Tom DeLay and carried by radio jocks like Limbaugh, which turned this into a pseudo crisis.

Why might you ask did they do this?
it started with the networks calling Fl for the Democrats
Those exit polls are really pretty good. That's the first sign that Gore in fact won in the mind of the voters, that is to say the majority of people thought they voted for Gore.
Wexler comes on the air talking about the multitudes of hysterical people who voted incorrectly. Jackson and others mentioned the black vote problem.
The rest of these events happen after most elections, especially close ones. What was different is that they were being talked about in alarming tones already by the AM radio jocks and though the instant messaging networks of the conservatives. The game plan was already in place. Early on I called it a Republican extortion scheme and I think that still captures the essence of the strategy. Demand a consession or turn the whole election into a circus.

The fact is there is no big reason for Gore or Bush to concede until the results are known. It certainly isn't critical that a concession by either party is made on the first night, that's just for newspaper deadlines and means very little in the scheme of things. It gets inconvienient after a while, but the country will putter along just fine.

the final result will be suspicion no matter who gets in
The conservative propaganda has been that pretty much everyone in the country is a liar except them. The conservatives that have been taken in by this aren't going to belive anything about the results, who would they trust?
The rest of us will believe the ballots if they are counted, regardless of who wins.
