The point you make about relating the VIX to a bottom in the compx is exactly right. So far, imo, all we've seen is a deep correction of the most outrageous froth in the Naz, while the Dow and spx continue to stagnate in 18 month old trading ranges. We may never see the kind of capitulation bottom most people seem to be looking for, but if we do it will have to include the Dow and spx, and therefore the VIX to be considered valid by historical experience.
