To: robwin who wrote (33961 ) 12/3/2000 12:12:42 AM From: X Y Zebra Respond to of 35685 Part of the problem in my view is the built in systemic problem with tabulating results in some states.... <snip> ...simply put, the counting system used in Florida for ballots created a problem of determining a true winner when the results are within the margin of error built in to the process...FWIW, listening to the arguments today, i am getting a sense that the Judge was not particularly persuaded to order a partial recount of the ballots...the hearing continues tomorrow... Very well. Your answer seems to support the use of reason as part of any argument. There are two facts that remain open. First, if the system is defective, then fine, change it. But it seems at this point, that lawyers are trying to change the system after the fact. That should be done at a later time. I remind you that I am not particularly fond of Bush, nor Gore either. I am more concern with the potential end result. As it stands now, given the Democratic victory in Washington state the senate sits at 50%/50%. Which brings me to my second point, common sense. A lot is being placed at risk in this bickering, frankly, not worth putting everything on the line for the sake of who will be the head dunce. I thank you for your response, you seem to be a reasonable person. I only wish the clowns making the current circus would use some of such common sense. Do we need to change the system ? I would agree to that. How about instead, attempting to reach to the other side for some "reasonable middle ground" ? seems easier to achieve than re-designing an already complicated issue. However, as they say, it takes two to Tango.P.S. Poet, thank you for the kind words...I would come to your aid in the latest diatribe from wstera but you seem to be doing just fine.. Ah ! After reading some of the endless verbal diarrhea already written by our hero, frankly, all Poet needs is our support, hereby displayed publicly by yours truly. Unfortunately, the lawyer's jokes have been inspired by the efforts of the bishops of the absurd, such as we have witnessed ! Certainly, you are NOT one of those examples. If I had a real estate issue to deal with, I would have no hesitation in hiring you. I actually enjoy the company of some of the brighter minds, such as yourself. As for the others, well... There used to be a thread here in SI. Thread Morons they called it Ah ! what fun it was ! Those were the days... We have just witnessed a candidate for a 'would be' nomination ! -gg- I have also seen Poet hold her own, she can handle the bozos on her own account quite easily, and in shorter sentences too. THAT is something I myself could learn. In closing I should also tell you that I just finished having dinner with a friend of mine, an attorney , and a very bright one at that. We discussed this issue of the election, and he tells me that there are a few states that could do what Flori-duh is about to do in naming their own members of the electorate college. --scary thought-- I was surprised, and I told him that if that is the case, it would be equivalent of a lawyer-led coupe d'etat. I hope that this would not happen. I shall wait and see. [Makes me wonder if I should move to a banana republic --then again, maybe I already did -gg-] p.s. Did you know that in Latin America, the modern coup d'etats were led not by General Gorilla, but rather by by "El Licenciado Rata Chueca" -gg--
