"I guess we have to see how much the Sony machine costs...

geoffrey- I read that story too. But I can't recall the Sony box description. Is this something a consumer is supposed to purchase as a stand-alone device to connect to his TV set? If so IMHO this is the only model that will be feasible.

If the studios are waiting for the MSO to build this into the STB, it may not happen. It costs too much and turns over too much control to the consumer.

It's pretty obvious that VOD is a killer app but there a so many conflicting interests that it's a major detriment to rolling it out. I personally consider the financial/legal obstacles more of a roadblock than one of technology. Especially the model you describe(one hour to download movie of choice).

If you are looking at pure play(almost) equipment companies in this area, Seachange(SEAC) and Concurent(CCUR) come immediately to mind. Both are risky as market caps are based on VOD rolling out. -MikeM(From Florida)
