Pearly, what do your socialist relatives think of Winston Churchill? I just truly love that man! I have read most of his books (some several times) and most every book about him, even some critical ones. He was a Tory, then a liberal and then a Tory again and even served with Labor. And along with it all he was just so cool! As you know I am pretty far left and some of his positions (on the colonies, on Ireland) and even his personal lifestyle is not the type I admire, but with him I make exceptions.

He is a powerful writer and his being in the thick of things in both world wars and his propensity to write about it (four volumes for WWI and six for WWII) is unmatched by any national leader. I like his other works "History of the English Speaking Peoples" ect.

He was prophetic in his criticisms of his peers between the wars and was vidicated in 1940. He was for sure the man of the hour then.
