joy to watch statistician Laurentius Marais testify

he blew apart the shoddy analysis by the Yale professor
Stanford wins, Yale loses
for those who are curious, the best graduate school program in Probability & Statistics is STANFORD
half of my Carnegie Mellon Univ professors in ProbStat program were from Stanford
my favorite professor JohnL was from Stanford
other excellent programs: Princeton, Minnesota, NoCarolina, Berkeley, Yale, Michigan, Chicago, Harvard, Florida State, Colorado State

Boies tried hard to undermine Marais, couldnt do it, failed
that was a battle of titans worth price of admission
Marais essentially called Demo statistician conclusions flawed, flimsy, and fallatious
Boies tried to impugn Marais without success
since Marais hadnt done a thorough and competent analysis himself,
Boies was trying but couldnt prove that Marais was therefore unable to refute the Yalie's testimony

Bush has an advantage
Repub lawyers only need to cast doubt on Demo assertions
which would establish the NEED for a recount
Demo lawyers (by contrast) need to create and defend a strong argument for the need for recount
again, this is the critical burden of proof

Judge Sauls stopped Boies in his tracks elsewhere
Boies was cut off at knees
he tried to smear Marais, pointing to a separate case on lead paint
Sauls cut him off a few times, until Boies gave up
Boies clearly was trying to paint Marais as a hired gun

really interesting to watch a professional statistical consultant
part of his practice is expert witnessing
Marais was very solid in all his comments, very competent

Marais covered well the concepts of control, evidence of inferential conclusion, comparative effects, voting methods research, ballot design effects

they touched on a few things we dealt with at Digital
when I was doing marketing research
if you want to kill a candidate, put that name on bottom on list or way off to the side

the Gore Team is now suffering from galloping denial
they cannot even see that their own expert witnesses are getting crucified
they cling to the implied belief that the people see more clearly and competently than experts

what a joke, an exercise in legal masturbation

now a new mantra, a further sign of Gore desperation
Carver, Gephardt, and others are saying:
"wouldnt it be a shame for independent organizations to prove what we already know, that Gore won the popular vote in Florida"

wow, these guys have no class, integrity, or sense of reality
