Playboy.com to Create Channel on Lycos Network

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Playboy Enterprises Inc.'s (NYSE:PLA - news) online unit said on Friday it formed a strategic pact with Terra Lycos (NasdaqNM:TRLY - news) to create a Playboy channel within Lycos' online media network beginning in early 2001.

The pact aims to drive more traffic to Playboy.com by wooing Lycos' male demographics with a channel that includes Playboy.com content highlights and PlayboyStore.com merchandise.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The companies said in a statement they will also develop My Playboy, a branded version of Lycos' personalized start page, the companies said in a statement.

Playboy.com will also use daily news stories from Wired News, part of Lycos' network of sites.

Internet media company Lycos' merger with Spain's Terra Networks closed earlier this month to create one of the world's largest Internet companies, Terra Lycos Inc.

The pact will impact all of Playboy.com's revenue streams, which include advertising, subscriptions and e-commerce, the companies said.

Shares of Chicago-based Playboy closed up 1/8 at $10-13/16, off its 52-week low of $10-1/4. Earlier Friday, the company said two executives resigned as part of a reorganization of its publishing division.

Terra Lycos shares rose 1/2 to $14-1/2.
