Hard to say exactly but many folks had big gains from late 1999 that they deferred until early 2000, and more gains through March if they were taking profits on short-term trades.

Equally important, most people aren't flush with new funds to buy, so you may not see much support for small caps in December.

That said there are some terrific bargains on the long side if you can ride it out. I just added some SORC, an unknown business services company trading at one times 2000 sales with profits and growth.
