I think my understanding of our government's structure is just fine, thank you.

You suggest an Electoral College that gives x votes per state, like the Senate. I say that would replace the current system, which already gives disproportionate weight to the small states, with a system that would give vastly disproportionate weight to the small states.

My remark about 16% of the population was not drawn out of thin air -- it represents the population of the 50 least-populous states as a proportion of the whole.

So the thinly populated states of the South, the Great Plains and the West could elect the President, and the population centers of the Midwest, and the East and West Coasts could just cry in their beer.

Speaking as an East Coast resident, this does not strike me as good idea.
