They wrote an editorial just before the election that endorsed Bush. They believe Bush is more pro-free trade and they belive that that is what is good for Australia. Generally the editorial line is right of centre - they are very right wing on economic issues but are pro-Republic. They are very pro-US. They do have a variety of writers on board: conservative, liberal, socialist and everything in between. That's why I read it - it's not a single party line paper.

"And in China ole' Ruperts operations there are playing up to the Chicoms in a big way. "

From the perspective of Aus being critical of China is a left wing position. Right-wingers want to trade with China and not worry about its "internal politics". Left-wingers are into criticizing foreign governments for their treatment of dissidents and want to protect domestic union jobs from competition... right-wingers say trade will amke everyone more prosperous and political repression will decline as a consequence.

>And to me that is the real danger, here are these foreign media manipulators....Most nations have very strong laws governing alien ownership of the mass media; we should have such laws here too...I realize Murdoch himself supposedly carries a US passport (and how many others?) but that is not the point.

Australia has such laws. News Corporation remains an Australian company but there is suspicion of Murdoch as an "American" now. He isn't counted in the lists of "most wealthy Australians" etc.
