What is the difference between a republic and a democracy? One of my smart (compared to me) buddies was telling me that we are not a democracy, but a republic. I think he was referring to us not directly voting for issues but electing those who do. If that is right, then the popular vote is not as important as I thought.
I find it to be fascinating watching this country set precedent on how we decide a tied election. The process is more important than the winner IMO. Lets get it right!! I also wish we would have let Russia (or even Castro) come in and "observe" the election. That would have given us a huge advantage the next time we wanted to "observe" some third world election.....
