theniteowl: Back when the Dow Indices were first introduced, computers were not around to determine tick by tick highs and lows for indexes.

At the end of the trading day a computation of the highs of the thirty issues in the Dow Industrials was used to establish the high for the day, the same was done for the lows. That process continued for many years and still done today and is called the "theoretical" high and low.

With the advent of computers it eventually became possible to track Indexes tick by tick and determine the real time "actual" high and low for the day.

I track both.
