Poor Slade, without the presidential imbroglio, the national party would be backing him for months more in appeals and congressional hearings about fraudulent environmental extremist ballot box stuffing. Should be good for Washington, though or at least the extremist faction that doesn't want the vestigial remains of the old growth forest clear cut as rapidly as possible.

I think I mentioned before but Gorten didn't carry Eastern WA as well as he has in the past....and that's where a lot of the anti old growth sentiment resides.

His loss may signal that overall sentiment is changing in the state in general. As hi-tech has outgrown its roots in Seattle, some of it has moved to more affordable places in the state, allowing the state as a whole to be less reliant on some of the older industries such as logging, fishing and farming.
