Re: we have to cater to software guys who are too scared to use the optimize switch in their compilers? For the most part, the risky, expensive piece is the software. So, yes, we expect the hardware guys to jump through hoops to support the software, instead of the software guys jumping through hoops to support the hardware. This characteristic of the computer market is what made Intel the market leader it is today. Otherwise, first the 680X0, and later the alpha would have supplanted the Pentium long ago. Dan
