So what's their point? New Mexico's got all of 5 electoral votes; it could leave the Union and nothing would change (except for a jagged southern border).

It's not just funny, it's hilarious. They're giving Gore a taste of his own medicine.

"Republican party officials in New Mexico called for a hand recount in one
county there, saying an unusual number of votes didn't express a preference for
president, the New York Times reported. Gore was certified the winner of New
Mexico's five electoral votes with a margin of 368 votes."

So Republicans think there should be a manual recount because Gore leads by only 368 votes. Do you realize that the total New Mexico vote was only 572,000? So Gore's lead there is 0.085% of the vote? While Bush's lead in Florida is only 0.009% of the vote, or almost ten times less?

Put another way, if Bush's lead in Florida was was proportionally the same as Gore's in New Mexico, he would be ahead by over 5,000 votes.

But go ahead, recount New Mexico if you want. I just think it's obvious that if New Mexico deserves a recount, Florida definitely does.
