OT: Where's the buffalo?

Yessiree bob,

Diplomacy 'r us. I keep lamenting the lack of Carville in the mix. Al really is a Bore. He tried to turn 60 Minutes into 3,600 Sonorous Seconds*** tonight.

[Believe me, if I could cast that EC schweinherde before pearls, I'd be delighted. Most of them pearls are found in about 4 fathoms of salt brine. It'd help keep the stench down.]

***Oh, yeah, what I really meant to say was that AlBore was laying odds tonight. Gave about 50% odds on this thing being a cooked turkey in two weeks. Else, he seemed to think someone would very likely be sworn in on Jan. 20. Reading between the tea leaves, I'm now reversing my prior discussion about a temporary Bush victory sucker rally. Ain't gonna happen, I don't believe. This contest has all the hallmarks of getting uglier and more contentious and not less. Not only is the Swiss mark looking good, but I believe you can now safely short the US$ against most any major currency and have a good bet. It could get interesting. The last time we had a major shift in exchange rates was in Oct. '97. And it happened essentially overnight. I see that the financial markets will be watching the results of the US Supreme Court decision with bated breath. You know the drill. Supreme Court defers to Florida courts. The Seminole thing goes Gore's way, the Legislature retaliates and political war makes every foreign investor in US equities and bonds absolutely pertified that he/she will be the last one to try to exit this game of musical chairs. Bingo, the world changes. Greenspan has no time to react. Financial markets lock up. Derivatives markets go mad, just as the did when they wiped out Neiderhoffer in Oct. '97 and LTCM in Oct. '98.

And America looks to go home to the range where the buffalo and the cell phone roam.

Not a prediction, just a possible scenario. I'll think of a rosy one for next time... Hehe.

Best, Ray
